Tacoma Art Museum
The Tacoma Art Museum opened its new building on May 3, 2003. A major Chihuly installation, titled Mille Fiori, was one of the opening exhibitions and ran through January 11, 2004. The museum's extensive collection of Chihuly’s early work in glass is on permanent display. Visit the screening room to view videos of the exhibition. Tacoma Art Museum has launched Ear for Art: Chihuly Glass Cell Phone Walking Tour. The tour allows users to learn more about Dale Chihuly’s artwork in Tacoma’s Museum District as they stroll through the revitalized downtown. Chihuly Bridge of Glass
If you drive into downtown Tacoma on I-705, one of the first things you'll see is the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, connecting Pacific Avenue and the Museum of Glass. The 500-foot span includes a Seaform Pavilion, Venetian Wall, and two Crystal Towers. To get to the pedestrian-only bridge from Pacific Avenue, walk between the Washington State History Museum and Union Station (map). Museum of Glass
The 75,000-square-foot museum, featuring large installations in downtown Tacoma, lies at the eastern end of the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. For more information, visit the Museum of Glass web site.

Pacific Lutheran University
In 1995, George Lagerquist commissioned Chihuly to create a work that would celebrate PLU's central icon, the Eastvold Chapel Rose Window. Chihuly produced the Persian Window, four huge, nine-piece glass "roses," each addressing a different theological symbol. They hang in the east windows of the Mary Baker Russell Music Center.

The Swiss Tavern

Tacoma News Tribune
If you're in Tacoma, Kelso's Beacon is worth a visit as well. It's a twenty-two-foot brilliant green chandelier that Chihuly hung in the foyer of the Tacoma News Tribune building in 1997.

Union Station
In March 1994, Union Station in downtown Tacoma became the setting for "Chihuly at Union Station," which was—at that time—the largest exhibition of glass ever presented by a single artist. There are really five installations beneath the great dome of the historic landmark: Monarch Window, End of the Day Chandelier, Basket Drawing Wall, Lackawana Ikebana, and Water Reeds.

Chihuly found inspiration in the changing fall colors of a campus ivy-covered wall and in 2000 created The Chihuly Window for UPS above the Wyatt Hall entrance.

Benaroya Hall
In 1998, Benaroya Hall became the new home of the Seattle Symphony. Chihuly created two major Chandeliers for the venue, which hang at either end of the gallery along 3rd Avenue.

University of Washington – Meany Hall
While working toward his undergraduate degree in interior design at the University of Washington, Chihuly took a pivotal materials class from Stephen Fuller. "It was because of that class that I began to work with glass," Chihuly said. In 1996, in appreciation of his education, he donated six "wall chandeliers" made up of 200 red and yellow pieces for the lobby of Meany Hall. Anemone Wall can be viewed during scheduled performances.

Pilchuck Glass School
We receive many e-mail messages asking about the Pilchuck Glass School, which Chihuly cofounded in 1971 with Anne Gould Hauberg and John Hauberg. For information about the school, please visit the Pilchuck web site, which has a great list of Seattle glass studios and galleries. One of the school's most popular annual events is a highly successful glass auction, held in the fall. Pilchuck also holds an open house each summer.

Icicle Creek
If you find yourself spending time on the east slopes of the Cascade Mountains, stop by the Sleeping Lady Conference Retreat to see the Icicle Creek Chandelier. The permanent outdoor installation lies in a spectacular mountain setting, beneath bright sun in summer and a coat of snow in the winter. View a video of the installation in the screening room.
